I thought the game v Slovenia was entertaining, and it was nice to see an underdog opponent having a good game, with England still not having a bad one – and was pleased that they came away with a goal.

I don't think any of the commentators or supporters of either team felt that Rooney had been fouled for the penalty, or that he appealed for a penalty.

What he did was protest his innocence at what he thought was a free kick against him – and that would have been my decision.

The ridiculous press about him diving, in today's Mail for example, bear no relation to the reality.
